INFORMATION ABOUT KATHERINE, NORTHERN TERRITORY
Katherine is situated 310km south East of Darwin, NT along the Stuart Highway on the banks of the Katherine River. Katherine has a population of 10,000 people, and the town also services a vast region of 400,000 km sq (the size of France or twice the size of Victoria).

The area east of Katherine is nicknamed the “Sunrise” region because the sun rises over the landscape. The area to the west, encompassing vast cattle stations, the mighty Victoria River region, as well as the top of the Tanami Desert, is simply known as the Katherine West area. Every landscape imaginable is here at our beckoning.

KATHERINE GORGE (NITMILUK)
The magnificent 13 Gorges of Nitmiluk Katherine Gorge in the Northern Territory are situated 30 km out of Katherine. Take a boat cruise, canoe the gorges, do a multitude of bushwalks.....whatever you do, just do it.

KATHERINE HOT SPRINGS
Situated in the Heart of Katherine, our have our own thermal springs which are a great place to have a dip in. With warm water just gushing from the riverbed just take your towel and a picnic and enjoy the sound of the waterfall on the lawned area. (No alcohol permitted)

From here just follow the bitumised path along the riverbed (about 1km) to the Low Level Nature Park.

KATHERINE LOW LEVEL BRIDGE/NATURE PARK
The original "road bridge" across the Katherine river with the weir underneath it, gives rise to more sounds of falling water. Many peaceful spots along here to have a dip, picnic and just relax. Up top on the riverbank are coin operated BBQ facilities, grassed areas & toilets. Try wetting a line for a barra or a brim.

KNOTTS CROSSING
This is the site of the "overland telegraph line" crossing and also the original horseback crossing from an era gone by. Situated at the rear of the Katherine Hospital it is also a great spot to relax with the family, with many secluded spots walking distance downstream. The fisherman may try the Northern bank upstream.

VICTORIA RIVER ABOUT 200KM WEST OF KATHERINE
Visit the world renowned Victoria River Roadhouse and fish for giant Barramundi on one of the world’s last wild rivers.

UMBRAWARRA GORGE
Situated 24 km off the Stuart Highway just out of Pine Creek, Northern Territory it is a great little place to get your experience up in a "Gorge" bushwalk, with shade & water and great rock formations this is a must do. Umbrawarra Gorge awaits you

FLORA RIVER
Situated 135 km west of Katherine Northern Territory along the Victoria Highway the spring fed Flora river is a mass of waterfalls flowing over naturally created tufa dams. The Flora flows to the Katherine/Daly/Flora river junction and continues on as the Daly River. Great campsite for canoeing the Flora & Daly rivers.

BESWICK FALLS, WATERHOUSE RIVER
The spot where all the Barramundi congregate is Beswick Falls near Beswick Aboriginal Community Northern Territory. Also see a few highlights of the Waterhouse River. Beswick falls are off limits without permission of the Community

NITMILUK GORGE TO EDITH FALLS WALK (66 KM) (JATBULA TRAIL)
If you really want to get away from it all and experience rarely seen Northern Territory waterfalls, swamplands, arid land, bushland, tropical rainforest pockets, Aboriginal rock art and spring water, you gotta walk this track over 4-5 days.

BITTER SPRINGS THERMAL POOL (MATARANKA)
Lots of people go to the Mataranka Hot Springs at the southern end of Mataranka, but recently a new hot springs has opened up to the public, and here you may get some solitude and stretch out with a few laps in the crystal clear spring water.

GROVE HILL HISTORIC HOTEL
Need to whet the whistle and see a remote but easily accessible piece of the Northern Territory history? Just 16 km off the Stuart Highway halfway between Darwin & Katherine.

DOUGLAS HOT SPRINGS / DOUGLAS DALY TOURIST PARK
Try not to confuse the two, situated about 12 km apart the Douglas Hot Springs has a basic bush camp, where the Douglas Daly Tourist Park (DDTP) has a great caravan/camping/cabin/bar environment with its own unique natural tourist attractions.

CUTTA CUTTA CAVES
30 Km South of Katherine, you can visit these caves as you arrive in Katherine and start your Katherine Region adventure. These cave are Tropical caves, with snakes & bats to view.

EDITH FALLS
62 Km north of Katherine (42 km up the Stuart Highway & 20 km in) Many walking trails and several waterfalls along the Edith River. Great camping sites with nice amenities & Kiosk.
